I'm experiancing issue with Catalina & VirtualBox, details below: I've used Mac OS Mojave 10.14.5 with VirtualBox version 6.0.8 + Extension pack. Installed Ubuntu VM which was working great! Then, upgraded to Mac OS Catalina (beta #1). VirtualBox can run the Ubuntu VM with UI. Though, once I leave the VM UI window, the VM crash.
Whether you’re setting up a fresh Linux VM in VirtualBox on macOS Catalina (10.15.6), or migrating a VM over from an older macOS version, you can be in for a nasty surprise — once the VM boots, VirtualBox crashes with a mere stack trace.
Personally I tested this with openSUSE, but since there’s similar reports from Ubuntu, this seems a fairly common problem.
- Download macOS Catalina ISO. You’ve to download macOS Catalina ISO from the link provided.
- Install macOS Catalina 10.15 on VirtualBox on Windows PC. Now you are done completely with the steps of macOS 10.15 on VirtualBox. Therefore, open VirtualBox and start the installation of macOS Catalina 10.15 on VirtualBox. After that, you run the installation just follow the steps to install properly macOS Catalina 10.15 on VirtualBox.
The error and the stack trace will look something along these lines:
The solution is simple, yet all the more annoying: disable audio in the VM settings.
At a guess, one of the many new security limitations in Catalina is denying VirtualBox permissions and the latter does’t know what to do besides throwing a fit.
