Sky Go App On Chromebook

App

Having issues with your Sky Go television app? You’re not the only one! Many Sky Go users are reporting the problem that their app is not working properly. Some users see an error tells them what happened, but for many their program just stop working.

Want to watch Sky Go on Google Chromecast or Chrome? This video explains if you can. Luckily for people in New Zealand, Sky Go supports full casting services, and you can cast the Sky Go app to a Smart TV with no problems. Follow these steps: Update the Sky Go app on your mobile device; Make sure both your device and Chromecast are on the same Wifi network; Open the Sky Go app and tap the casting icon (it looks like a TV). It might be in part because Sky Go is only of interest to UK users, but for my fellow Brits, here you are. I recently purchased an Acer R11 Chromebook and have been testing out Android app support. I previously had a Lenovo N22 which also supported Chromebook apps but the much lower spec on the N22 meant that the experience was less than ideal. With Stadia 1, play high quality games like PUBG, Destiny 2, and more on your Chromebook without waiting for installation, downloads, or updates. With NVIDIA GeForce Now, play PC games like Fortnite, Apex LegendsTM, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2, and more.

This is very frustrating! You can’t watch your programs because of these issues. But don’t worry. It can be fixed…

Fixes to try

Does Sky Go work with HDMI cables?

Unfortunately, Sky Go subscribers can’t plug an HDMI cable into a laptop or mobile device and hook it up to a bigger screen.

This is similar to the fact that when watching Sky Go, viewers are unable to take screenshots of a show. Overall, it seems that unless the Sky Go app is installed on the device screen you’re watching, you can’t view the content.

What about Sky Go and a Google Chromecast?

Based on the fact that Sky Go is incompatible with HDMI cables and doesn’t allow screenshotting, many would assume that the app wouldn’t work with casting devices, either. But, there is a workaround for Chromecast users.

  1. Firstly, open the Sky Go app on your computer.
  2. Ensure that Google Chrome is installed on your computer and that the Sky Go launcher is up to date.
  3. To cast to a Chromecast, pick something to watch on your Sky Go via the app.
  4. Open Google Chrome and select the ‘Google Cast’ option (this is in the top right-hand corner of the browser page) which should show a drop-down of the available devices in your home.
  5. Select the option under ‘sources’ to cast the ‘entire desktop’ which is the option to go for rather than just casting your current tab.
